Why this exists

California firefighter requirements are scattered across the FCTC, Cal-JAC, CAL FIRE, and hundreds of department pages. Golden State Firefighter puts those requirements into one practical sequence and marks the details that vary by department.

One sequence from EMT to promotion

Golden State Firefighter is built by the Golden State Firefighter team, and our whole job is turning a confusing process into something you can actually follow. Every guide on this site is built from the official sources that actually run this process, FCTC, Cal-JAC, CAL FIRE, and the departments themselves, and kept current as the process changes.

That focus is the whole point. The information is public, but it is scattered, bureaucratic, and easy to get wrong. We do the assembling, the cross-checking, and the plain-language writing, so you can spend your time on the things that actually make you a stronger candidate.

What we promise

Realistic timelinesMost candidates take three to five years. Our guides show the training, testing, application cycles, and waiting that fill that time.
Built for CaliforniaWe do not water this down into generic national advice. Everything is written for how it actually works here: FCTC, CAL FIRE, and California city and county departments.
Current, with limits markedRequirements change and vary by department. Every guide identifies the details you should confirm with the department before applying.

Independent, by design

We are not affiliated with CAL FIRE, the FCTC, Cal-JAC, or any fire department or agency. Our role is to compare the public requirements, explain the sequence, and send you back to the responsible agency for current details.
