California firefighter requirements are scattered across the FCTC, Cal-JAC, CAL FIRE, and hundreds of department pages. Golden State Firefighter puts those requirements into one practical sequence and marks the details that vary by department.
One sequence from EMT to promotion
Golden State Firefighter is published by Golden State Careers LLC, a California company, and written and edited in house. Every guide is built from the official sources that run this process, the FCTC, Cal-JAC, CAL FIRE, the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the EMS Authority, and the departments themselves, and updated as the process changes.
The information is public, but it is scattered, bureaucratic, and easy to get wrong. We do the assembling, the cross-checking, and the plain-language writing, so your time goes to the things that make you a stronger candidate.
What we are
What we are is a research operation: we read the primary sources, put them in the order you meet them, and mark every place the answer varies by department. How that research is done, which sources outrank which, how the directory and job board are compiled, and how to tell us we are wrong are all set out in our editorial standards.
